Eurovision Song Contest: Last two UK victories
As former binman Andy Abrhams prepares to do battle in tonight's Eurovision Song Contest, we look back at the UK's last two victories in the competition...
4 April 1981:
Bucks Fizz were victorious at the 26th Eurovision Song Contest, held in Dublin, with this performance of Making Your Mind Up. It was a close-run contest though with the UK winning by a narrow four-point margin. It was Cheryl Baker's second appearance in the content, having previous been a member of the UK's 1978 entry, Co-Co.
3 May 1997:
The UK's next (and most recent) victory in the contest came again in Dublin, this time at the 42nd contest in 1997. Katrina and the Waves were the star of the show with their song "Love Shine A Light". They scored 227 points, a record at the time, receiving points from every voting country including a record 10 sets of 12 points.
